SEARCH BICYCLING:
Bicycle Organizations

Nearly every part of the Bay Area has a bicycle organization that provides information on bicycle riding clubs, retail outlets and repair shops, route maps and more. See the list below for the organization in your area:

  • Bay Area Bicycle Coalition BABC is composed of local coalition leaders representing bicyclists in each of the nine Bay Area counties. BABC's mission is to assure that bicycles are part of an integrated transportation plan throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

  • Bike Alameda Bike Alameda is the home base for the bicycling community of the city of Alameda. Founded in 1999 to educate the public and government, to create a sense of community about bicyclists and advocate for safer and better bicycle facilities.

  • Bicycle-Friendly Berkeley Coalition The Bicycle-Friendly Berkeley Coalition was founded in July 1995 to bring together bicyclists, merchants, parents, environmentalists and others in support of bicycling. Our mission is to make Berkeley a more bicycle-friendly city. We want to help make bicycling so safe, convenient, and pleasant that it becomes a preferred way of getting around town.

  • East Bay Bicycle Coalition Since 1972, the East Bay Bicycle Coalition has represented the interests of bicyclists throughout the counties of Alameda and Contra Costa. EBBC's mission is to promote bicycling as an everyday means of transportation and recreation.

  • Marin County Bicycle Coalition The Marin County Bicycle Coalition is a public interest nonprofit organization that acts as a bicycle education and advocacy organization, dealing with broad issues that increase the use of bicycles for transportation and recreation.

  • San Francisco Bicycle Coalition The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition's biggest strength are the thousands of active SFBC members working together for a city-wide network of bike lanes, traffic calmed streets, better access to transit and secure bike parking. See the promotional video (QuickTime) about the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition.

  • Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition The Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition has provided a forum for bicyclists to network, air common concerns and take action since the early 1970s. We are ordinary people who want to use bicycles as practical daily transportation - every day, everywhere, safely and in comfort. The SVBC works for better cycling throughout Santa Clara County.

  • Peninsula Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition The San Mateo County chapter of the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, we are dedicated to advocating for safety and accessibility for all cyclists and pedestrians in the County, both transportational and recreational. We work to improve road conditions and reduce traffic hazards as well as host events and projects to celebrate bicycling. Our 4th of July parade entry, a bike-drawn float won 3rd place last year. Help us win first place this year!

  • Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition promotes the bicycle for transportation and recreation. This membership organization works to improve road conditions for all cyclists whether they be road riders, commuters or kids biking to school. By working with local governments and other public agencies, the coalition helps increase awareness and respect for cycling throughout the county.

All of the nine Bay Area counties and most cities and towns have (or soon will have) adopted bike plans. Congestion Management Agencies (CMA), which are responsible for preparing and implementing each county's Congestion Management Program, have developed countywide bicycle plans.
