Bike to Work Day 2005Bike to Work Day
Thursday, May 19, 2005

Bike to Work Day 2005 was a smashing success! If you thought a little rain would stop people from pedaling to work, think again! Cyclists were cheered on by hundreds of volunteers during their commute as they passed over 183 Energizer Stations sprinkled throughout the Bay Area. Rain didn’t even deter San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom from riding his bike to City Hall the morning of May 19. We thank our sponsors, County Team Coordinators, and volunteers who committed to making Bike to Work Day 2005 the most successful yet! We’ll see you out there next year, on Thursday, May 18, 2006.

Keep on pedaling!

BIKE TO WORK DAY
AWARD WINNERS

Many prizes were awarded to thank those who bike to work — both for newcomers and for veterans. Congratulations to this year's winners! We hope that you will make every day a bike to work day!

BIKE COMMUTERS OF THE YEAR AWARD WINNERS
One person in each of the nine Bay Area counties received an award recognizing their committment to maeking every day a Bike To Work day.

Alameda County
Four cities, three counties, two bridges, one bike, five days a week and 5,000 miles a year! Danard Coleman is one serious peddler.

Contra Costa County
Steve Kooyman visits Bike to Work Day Energizer Stations every year telling the same tale of how he organizes getting his daughter to school on a bike that connects to his. Logistics is no obstacle for this guy!

Marin County
Several nominations were submitted for Nette LaBelle. Those who nominated Nette calculated that she has rescued the environment from 450 million pounds worth of pollutants by riding her bicycle!

Napa County
Gabriela Gonzalez uses her bicycle for all her transportation needs. She is very active in the Eagle Cycling club and can frequently be found encouraging others to use their bikes.

San Francisco County
Joe Gross rides from San Francisco to his job at Google in Mountain View - a total of 70 miles roundtrip several days a week. This commute is the true meaning of Bike to Work!

San Mateo County
A dedicated cyclist, Dr. Dani Weber is also a pedestrian advocate and cycles to her practice several days a week.

Santa Clara County
For 16 years Mario Capra has pedaled 18 miles per day, everyday rain or shine, to commute to work.

Solano County
Glen Grant uses a combination of bicycling and public transportation to commute to Sacramento everyday. Glenn rides to AmTrak's Capitol Corridor, cycles to the Regional Transit light rail train in Sacramento and then rides another 5 miles to work.

Sonoma County
"One less car" is Loretta Esparza's mantra. She uses her bike for all transportation needs and encourages others to do the same.

OUTSTANDING WORKPLACE THAT FOSTERS BICYCLE TRANSPORTATION
We are pleased to honor Agilent Technologies for the Outstanding Workplace that Fosters Bicycle Transportation Award. Agilent supports their employees in pedaling to work by providing bicycle facilities and even budgets for an on-site bicycle team. Agilent Technologies employee, Steve Reddi, received the award in honor of his company.

MOST IMPROVED BICYCLE COMMUNITY
For Most Improved Bicycle Community we are pleased to honor the city of Petaluma as they demonstrate an improved commitment to provide safe and accessible bicycle lanes and pathways throughout their city. Jared Vollmer received this award in honor of Petaluma.
